Wildflowers of Bradlaugh Fields #12 Chickweed

Stellaria media

Again, another under-rated and ignored little plant, chickweed is as the name suggests, greatly loved by chickens as a spring-time picke-me-up full of vitamins. I’d guess that plenty of other, wild birds and animals find it a good source of nourishment as well. It will thrive in most soils, including rough-ground and round gateways as seen here near the Fulford Drive entrance by the playground.
