Mowing the Meadows at Bradlaugh Fields: Day 2

Bradlaugh Fields Mowing Orchid Bank 6th August 2015

The Thursday started with some dark clouds, but soon turned sunny and volunteers sweltered in the heat, labouring hard to rake up and remove the piles of vegetation cut down by Wildlife Trust staff with strimmers. Even after the day before, there was so much still to do up on ‘Scrub’ Field and Orchid Bank, so the 6th August task was moved here from Hills and Hollows. An excellent clean cut, and with a lot of longer vegetation additionally removed around the encroaching edges (as seen in the photo above) opening the fields up nicely. The new area where Anglian Water so helpfully removed a large patch of Blackthorn, has also been cut over and had the arisings removed, giving a great start for a renewed grassland area next year!
